Great cheesesteak and fries! Staying at a hotel down the street and this place caught my eye. Ended up checking it out for a quick dinner and I wasn't disappointed. Menu had many options but I chose the triple threat cheesesteak. Fries were fresh cooked and complemented the sandwich well. Very friendly service at the counter.

Decent, but not spectacular. Parking can also be a pain. While the food might be a bit overpriced for what it is, their location likely factors into how they price items. Their cheesesteaks are pretty good, though I'm by no means an authority on the topic. Tried the cheesesteak with provolone and the triple threat, and I think I like the provolone better. Big Al's club was ok, but next time I'd rather go to a sub shop for that kind of thing. Ben Franklin cheeseburger was also mediocre--the toppings were underwhelming and the mushrooms were bland. Tater chip chicken fingers were really good--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The pickled peppers are pretty much the main reason I'd come back. Sure, it's a possible staph aureus fest to have them sitting out in South Florida weather, but I'd like to think that there's enough turnover to keep them fresh. Not a huge fan of the bread and butter pickles or the spicy peppers, but the pickled peppers are great on everything!

I wished I skipped this place. Beautiful Sunday afternoon, was set back a bit by a few things here: 1 I was charged $18 for soda, fries (which were good) and a cold, fatty, steak and cheese (barely any cheese) on a roll that rivaled on old hamburger bun. 2 The guy who took my order seemed perturbed that I was interrupted his vapor smoke break and when I dared ask him if the price was correct his answer was to "read the receipt"...wow, thanks pal

A great place to stop by if you're in the area. Downtown delray can be a bit pricey and this place is nice and budget friendly. I got the chicken philly and it was perfect! Added lettuce tomato and ranch it was very flavorful! The parking situation kinda sucks but all of downtown delray parking does there's no escaping it even for a quick bit. The employees are very friendly and helpful. They have great fries also! Nice and crispy and always fresh!

I love this place. I come here once a year for work and always get a philly cheese steak from here on my trip for one of my lunches. I'm not from philly but have had some great ones in my travel there so I have somewhat of an idea. This time I got the triple threat + bacon and fries. Delicious as usual. Bread was perfect and fresh. Meat-cheese-onions flavor was great. Fries are always good too. The lady at the register and on the grill was very pleasant and I received great service. Will always keep coming back here!

I'm from Philadelphia. Any good cognitive psychologist will probably explain that my "standard" of excellence in cheese steaks was probably developed during my early years when my parents went to Geno's or Pat's steaks and shared part of their cheese steak with me. So, here is my definition of an authentic Philadelphia Cheese steak - so you can ignore the rest of this if your definition is different: First, the roll. It must be an Amaroso steak roll, baked that morning and hopefully still warm from the oven. Then it must be toasted lightly to crisp the outside. Everything else is ok, maybe even excellent but not authentic. There are two styles of cheese steak in Philadelphia, Geno's style is chopped gently with the spatula while cooking and Pat's style is prepared from very, very thin sliced eye of the round that is sliced while still frozen slightly and put on the grill with a sizzle. Optionally, the steak can be served with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and peppers. Now, given the standard, how did Big Al make out? I went there twice during the last month. Both times were well after lunch rush hour when they were not terribly busy. The first time they happily toasted my roll (not, unfortunately and Amaroso), almost caramelized the onions and perfectly melted the provolone cheese I requested. While I know the truly authentic steak sandwich is served with cheese wiz, I'm from West Philadelphia and provolone, while frowned upon, is OK. Five stars is impossible on anything but an Amaroso roll and the onions were not quite done, so they earned 3 stars - and if that had been my only visit, that would be the rating. Today, I approached the window to find the order taker on the phone, no one in line, and the grill person cleaning some tables. Exactly what I wanted since I know that toasting the roll is "against policy." To his credit, the order taker immediately ended his phone call and took my order cheerfully and politely. Then I asked to have the roll toasted. He raised is voice and said, "we don't toast rolls." No point in refuting his "that is not authentic" statement since both Pat's and Geno's always toast their Amaroso rolls lightly. I stated, "then I don't want it," picked up my money on the counter and left. On the way out, I encountered the grill man still cleaning tables. I asked his about toasting, he replied, "We are not a sub shop, we have no room to toast rolls." Huh, there was nothing on the grill, no one in line, and no big deal to put the roll on the grill while the steak cooks. So, if you want an authentic Philadelphia Steak with an attitude, this is the place for you. The bread is not authentic and they have the attitude. If you want a good lunch that reminds you of the best part of your relationship with your Philadelphia family, keep looking. If, however, you want something a little better than fast food and the "eat it my way" attitude is OK, this is the place.

This is by far one of the best hamburgers around. Don't know what they do; but they have the secret hamburger recipe. OUTSTANDING Adam!

If I could give less than a 1 I would. I waited for 2 hours for my food and when I complained to the wait staff they said "it's Florida sorry". I not only would never go here again, I would recommend everyone to not step foot in this establishment. The food is diner food. Sorry for the harsh review I've never felt compelled to write one, this restaurant should not exist and I sincerely hope it fails.

If it's two in the morning and you're hungry this is your best bet in del ray. It's made fresh, and the staff fits the bill. Just be prepared for a late night rap off or a crazy scenario.

No idea where all of these 3 and even 4 star reviews are coming from?! Went here tonight based off of yelp reviews and personal recommendations and honestly couldn't have been more disappointed. The bread, onions, and meat were all completely tasteless. Everything was just dropping in oil that it completely masked the tastes of everything else. Not to mention the 1" thick layer of cheese coating the bread, and then the thin layer of meat on top. The fries which I though were good to start, turned out to be saltiest things I've ever eaten. While in comparison to the cheesesteak they were the bomb diggity, in comparison to fries anywhere else they were just average. Thank you for the Coke Zero, the only thing that was on par with my expectations. If you're looking for an oily, cheesy sandwich with a few slices of tasteless meat, then this place is definitely for you. If you want the person taking your order to be on their cell phone while talking to you and someone else at the same time, then this place is definitely for you. If you want a Philly cheesesteak done right, make the drive out west to John Smith Subs in Boca; tasty food and great people. Obviously I won't be coming back to Big Al's.

A hole-in-the-wall in Delray Beach, FL. Stop in for a cheesesteak. The fries aren't bad an mine were served HOT. Recommended for a quick lunch while you're waiting to board a boat at Delray Yacht Cruises.

The cheesesteaks here are pretty legit and this is definitely a good place to hit up if you've been drinking on Atlantic Ave. The service is fast and it's not too expensive. I usually opted for the regular Philly Cheesesteak with fries (which are really really good, mind you). I can't attest to whether they blow actual Philly cheesesteaks from Philadelphia out of the water, but I will say there is really no other place like this in Delray and the food is pretty yummy so it's a good place to eat.

This place is a joke. The staff is rude, lazy, and it took forever to get my order!! I will never go back to that dump. and Josh is a jerk.

I ordered a regular-sized triple threat Philly cheesesteak, which had onions, ribeye, mozzarella, provolone, and cheez whiz. The steak and onions were put on the griddle when I ordered the sandwich, and the cheez whiz was kept hot and fresh as well. The French fries I ordered were as fresh as can be, and they had the perfect amount of salt. They were crispy, and I could tell that they were not cooked in old oil. I also put hot peppers on my sandwich, and they were very tasty. The bread tasted very fresh, and it went perfectly with the rest of the ingredients. Lastly, my cherry fanta had the perfect balance of carbonation and syrup. It was a fantastic meal all for under $17.

  • Jordan N.

This is some serious cheesesteak - done the traditional Philly way. I'm not usually a fan of cheese whiz, and should probably have asked them to put less of it into my cheesesteak, but I could definitely see the appeal of the whole product in the end. Soft, fresh hoagie bun with the cheese whiz all melting in your mouth, and with tasty steak that's not overly shredded like in some places - it's a win! And I imagine that for the Philly folks, there is no better place to get a taste of home in southern Palm Beach area than here. And just so everyone knows - it's a very casual place where service won't go very far. And as for the set-up, it's very much like any one of those late-night pizza shops you find in South Beach. Don't let that deter you though - and don't go silly ordering anything other than the classic standby.

The word on the street is that this place is legit when it comes to Philly Cheesesteaks. They have a pretty wide variety of ways you an eat it --and have other sandwich options (but why would you?) There fries are awesome and they also have a pickle and pepper bar that I would always dig right into. It's all greasy and good. This is the food you wanna eat to prevent or help cure a hangover.

My first visit was a few weeks ago and got a hotdog. Very good, one of the best dogs I've ever had. my Fiance tells me their Philly Cheese Steak which is of course their specialty, is very good. Looking forward to having that.

Saw this place while walking down Atlantic Ave and decided to give it a try. Especially since there was a Groupon! My boyfriend is from Philadelphia and he said it was pretty good. I think their rolls are from Philly as well. We got a side of fried pickle chips and the batter had a nice spicy kick. There are some tables to sit at outside but that's it. Not sure how long the condiments have been sitting outside. We took our food to go and enjoyed it on the balcony of the condo.

A few years ago I had a nice experience and an ok Cheesesteak. Recently returned, and what a change. Asked for a cheesesteak with extra onions and a well toasted bun, assuming they would toast the bun in the first place. This was a bad experience. Now I know why I was the only person there. The attitude was not good and I decided to leave without eating. Wouldn't take much to make this a first rate place.

  • Michael K.

I'm from Philly. THIS is the ONLY TRUE PHILLY CHEESESTEAK in South Florida that I have had in 25 years. Period. 1 wiz wit. There ought to be a law about calling a steak sandwich a "Philly cheesesteak" that really isnt. If this were the case....Big Al's would be the only authentic place not breaking the law!

    (5)
  • Nick V.

Al might be big, but his $10.00 sandwich is NOT. The only thing I tasted was the Cheese Wiz. Nothing special about the bread or the meat. I have had better at every carnival and street fair. And I can definitely make a better one than "Al". Because the Big Al cheesesteak was just bigger than an ors devours I actually went next door and got a $5.00 cheeseburger. It sucked too.

Rule of thumb what a customer ask for is what they want , it is rude and very disrespectful to say something is gross. If I wanted peanut butter on my sub and you had it to put well its me. I was told if it was busy i would have been told they wouldn't make my sub the way o wanted which was just add oil and vinegar. For service you get a zero. Customer is always right !#!!!

Late night food that will hit the spot. Birch beer & Phillys... what more can you ask for at 2:30am? Fast service. Good location as it is right in Atlantic Ave. Their food is good.... not great; however, there are not many places to get a "solid" meal like that so late at night (hence its 4 star rating).

  • James T.

Legit Philly cheesesteak! Same rolls they use at genos, they ship them in from philly! All the cheeses even whiz, onions, mushrooms, and a pepper bar. Phenomenal if you've had a few beers.

What a rip off. Steak sandwich and bottle if water - $12.75. Water - $2.50. You can have it. I asked to speak to the manager to which the tattooed guy said I'm the manager. When I said that a bottle of water costing $2.50 was insulting, and asked him to convey this to the owner, he said he really didn't care. That was the last time for Philly Cheese Steak. No more for me. Very rude. I always give an establish my feedback if there is a problem , but this guy was insulting. DONE WITH THEM.

  • Walker M.

Let's just say I'm not a fan. They say they have original Philly cheesesteaks. When I sat down to eat my sandwich I was disgusted. The meat tasted like steak-umms, it was drowning in the cheese wiz and horribly greasy, falling apart in my hands. I didn't even finish it. I'm from Philly. I've had Pats and Genos. This doesn't even come close. If you want an authentic Philly cheesesteak try Direct From Philly in Deerfield. The only thing Big Al's has going for it is it's great location.

  • Christopher B.

THIS IS THE ONLY AUTHENTIC PHILLY IN SOUTH FLORIDA! First to all people who don't like wiz, want vege steaks, or hate grease, this is how they make a Philly at Pats and Geno's in South Philly. This is authentic. So complain to the famous places that they emulate and see if they care. They might be able to think about your complaint now that the Presidential Campaign visits are over. Or maybe not. The bread is the same crusty loaf used at Geno's. I am told that they get it from the same bakery and have it shipped down. They use thin sliced ribeye steak and do not chop it because chopping is used to hide inferior cuts of meat. Ribeye is the most marbled and flavorful of the steaks but the marbling does bring some grease with it. This is steak grease which is not the same grease that you get from other fast food joints with cheap meat. Then they carmelize the onions on the griddle until they are clear. Once they turn brown, they get bitter so they throw them out. Then the wiz. You have the option of three cheeses here. The standard is the wiz. Cheese Wiz is the traditional way to do a philly cheese steak. Period. I know it is processed cheese food. I know that it is pumped out of gas stations nationwide and anything that is pumped in a gas station is not meant for human consumption. But there it is. And it is very, very good. Like Twinkies good. You know it is horrible for you and you don't wan to know what it is made of but it somehow works. That is cheese wiz on a cheese steak. When I go to philly, that is all I eat because that is what most people from philly eat. But if you don't like it then get something else. It won't be as good but it is available. They also have Birch Beer which is rare to see down here. It is a north east thing which is like root beer on crack. It is pretty awesome and is the perfect accompaniment. Now the bad. The service can suck because they hire high school kids to do a lot of the work and lets face it, high school kids wouldn't know good service if it bit them on the nose. Then it is expensive. For an 8 inch sub it will cost you more than $8. But don't worry it is actually 8" unlike other sub joints and the sub is so rich that you will be stuffed anyways. Unfortunately, using ribeye and imported buns costs money. So if you are looking for the real deal, look no further. If you think Miami Subs is the greatest cheese steak in the world but are willing to try better, look no further. If you can't get passed cheese wiz as a food product and not a punchline then stay away please. And for God's sake remember, there is no mayonnaise on cheese steak.

Sadly we came here based off of my hubby's suggestion. He had been here a long time ago and said their cheessteaks were very good. I agree with a previous reviewer prices are steep for what you get. It is strictly a walk up counter with some tables outside. The guy working the register was awesome, he was very friendly and funny. So ugh hubby brings the food over I ordered a cheese steak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms with mozzarella. We shared some fries which was the only thing I can say was good. My cheese steak was bland, did not care for the stale bread at all and the meat was tough with no flavor to it. The meat was cut to thick IMO. To make matters even worst the mushrooms were not even cooked and from a can. I mean come on now fresh mushrooms are not pricey. Nothing in this sandwich was good at all. Even my hubs said it was nothing like he remembered. A shame because I adore a good cheese steak but I am starting to think I may have to go to Philly to get a great one. Great location and good service is all I can say about this place. Oh and the fries were good. Way to many other better dining options in this area.

We are from Philly. This place has a small piece of the north in it. Steak is good rolls are fresh all around a good sandwich shop. Not a Gino's or a pats but for FL/the south it is a good place to eat.

First week in Delray and saw this right off the start. I got the triple threat. $9.75 all and all it did the job not anything I would rave about I've had worse. For the location and the fact they stay open late I'm sure they will be getting my busy again.

  • Fred Q.

The Cheesesteak was 5 stars. The large with your choice of cheese, onions, peppers and mushrooms was $9.25 but was excellent. Very tender and flavor-able rib eye. The fries and onion rings were frozen. So even though they were high quality they weren't cut fresh so they get just 3 stars.

    (4)
  • Peter C.

A colossal rip off. Over $10 for a scrawny 6" chicken Philly (tiny portions of 3 ingredients) and a coke. I don't enjoy helping them pay their rent. 2 stars for being edible. Never again.

  • Norman M.

Very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgable staff! The guy behind the counter counseled me the whole way through my order. Lol he even helped me find a great place to grab a drink afterward. Food was excellent! Though, the next time I'm getting double meet and double whiz. The fries were perfect! Crispy outside, soft center and salted perfectly! My only comment is, add a cheese sauce for the fries or at least upsell it.

  • M S.

This is our go-to place for Phillys and late-night drunchies. Lots of choices for sandwich fillings and toppings and everything is made fresh and fast. The staff is always cool and friendly and the food is always good. Big Al's never disappoints!

  • I O.

Drove from Broward Co to Palm Beach Co just to try this and I must say, I was really impressed with the quality of their cheesesteaks! Meat was juicy, bread was fresh and service was great! a little disappointed at their pictures of Pats and Genos in Philadelphia considering every person living in the North East knows Pat and Genos are just not that good. Sitting outside was just an added bonus on this sunny day in Delray Beach.

On a week long visit, I went to this place a couple of times. Its so good! Certainly the best Philly I've had in a while. Don't even bother with a number 9 or whatever from D'angelos. The meat at this place is far superior along with the bun. I'm drooling thinking about this place right now. It's also open late so its a good savior at night. Certainly check it out, you shouldn't be disappointed

    (5)
  • Joe S.

The cheesesteak is good, i'm not going to lie. Being from Philadelphia I know a good cheesesteak. The problem comes in the fact that for a cheesesteak a soda and fries you should be prepared to pay around 15 bucks. Seems high in my opinion. Also, the staff could be a little friendlier. Not the warmest crew around, that's for sure.

seems to me this place is slipping away i could make a better one at home and it would be much better they used to have a great cheese steak but now hummm i dont know maybe i caught it on a bad day that might be the last time i go because the meat was tough and the bread was hard to chew

Years ago Big Al's used to be a reliable option where us Philadelphians would go to get our cheese steak fix. Not any more. They got too big, too quick and lost all their flavor in doing so. It explains why multiple locations have already shut down. The reality is, it just ain't what it used to be. I loved Gino's growing up and this place is basically a carbon copy, hence the residuals Big Al's had to pay late owner Joey Vento. Big Al's had it all, the cherry soda, the Tastycakes and all the Philly sports swag you'd want to see in your cheese steak shop. I was a big supporter and co-signed them to almost anyone who asked "where do I get a good Philly steak from? Today, I can't in good conscience tell them Big Al's. I'm all for business and I understand the dynamics behind theirs, but once you get too comfortable you tend to lose focus and the ship starts to sink. The service, experience and most important quality of the sandwiches have changed. Places like Jim's, Tony Lukes, Pats or Gino's have been around because of their rich history, but also because no matter how big they got (or wanted to get) they always managed to deliver a quality sandwich year in, year out. Profits started to pour in and naturally greed took over. Cheaper meats, smaller portions, unprofessional employees working in their shops. The list goes on. I hope Big Al one day realizes this before it's too late. Until then, there is no better option than Direct From Philly. They are the Rocky Balboa of cheese steaks in South Florida, while Big Al is more like Spider Rico these days.

I ordered a reg cheesesteak/fries earlier today ... First of all customer service/fries was great! The philly cs had no flavor (seasoning). I added peppers, jalapeños, and mushrooms which were put on top of the sandwich, making it nearly impossible to eat. I must say it was nothing to write home about. I'd rather have the big kahuna Philly cheesesteak from Jersey Mikes. Also I must add that if you take your receipt a few doors down to Orange Leaf (Froyo/gelato) you get 10%off your order.

    (3)
  • Rachel B.

Absolutely love their Philly cheesesteaks! Only thing I'd say that is a fault would be that the meat isn't super thin like most cheesesteaks but I still love them! Love the walk up window idea and the outside eating area.

Sliced ribeye, cheese whiz, and onions? Ummmm yes please!!!! Absolutely amazing! Been eating it for years and still can't get enough! Great staff, really Philly guys, they'll talk sports just as quickly as they will talk about cheese steaks and philly with you. Great spot to eat whether it's lunch, dinner, or after the bar munchies!

  • Erika R.

Was expecting a Philly style cheesesteak. The lady at the window was very nice. The beef was not a quality shaved beef. Was more like freezer steak-ems. Mushrooms were out of a can. Alright to eat if in a hurry but don't expect quality ingredients.

This is probably the best Philly Cheese Steaks in town, but I am not a purest and order mine without onions. Make sure to try the fries as they are equally good.

Every 10 years there's a place that breaks the mold. Big Al's comes pretty close. It copies the mold. But its a good mold. A philadelphia mold made of cheeze wiz. For a delicious cheese steak with cheese wiz come heree. Its delicious, amazing and inexpensive.

I'm a bit of a cheesesteak aficionado having spent my first 20 years in Philadelphia training my palate. I have to say I don't live in Delray Beach and Big Al's may be the best cheesesteak in that area, but I wasn't very impressed. They tout the sandwiches are on Philadelphia bread and that may be true, however it didn't have the texture, feel and bite of a good Philadelphia Italian bread. Had mine "wit" (a knock off of the phrasing used at Philadelphia's Pat's Steak) onions and cheese wiz. Please note; all "Philly" cheesesteaks (hate that term "Philly") whether they come from Chili's, Applebee's or even Friendly's taste good. It's a good sandwich, but a real Philadelphia cheesesteak has a special taste. I can say Big Al's was just okay and really nothing special; It lacked seasoning and any abundant quantity of meat. By the way, that "special" Philadelphia taste can be successfully exported; try the cheesesteak at Delco's in Dunedin (Clearwater) Florida. A bargain at $5.95 vs. Big Al's at $8.45 and considerably larger too. It's a hell of a long ride from Delray depending on how badly you're Jones'in for a real cheesesteak.

Tasty cheese-steak with provolone, fries and a diet coke! Comparable to the steak sandwiches I have had at Genos. A great Philly tradition duplicated in South Florida! Great people watching at the street side tables!. Forget all those fancy restaurants on Atlantic Ave, check out Big Als!

Alright, shame on me... I never had a philly cheesesteak before coming to Al's. After I had my first bite, I wanted to kick myself for never eating one until then! They're delicious! Everyone who worked there was very nice. And I for sure believed them when they told me that they're authentically Philly. So far, I've only been once and I can't wait to go back. They serve it up quick and it tastes great. Two things that are big pluses in my book. I went to Philadelphia about a month after eating here so I got to compare it to the real deal. And I must say, Big Al's is doing a great job bringing Philly to Florida! Nothing compares to the real thing, but Big Al's isn't far behind them.

had the "triple threat".. and its definitely a gut bomb full of calories but also totally delicious. good food. the fries were just okay... but I recommend the cheese steak

  • Aaron S.

Ignore the reviews that are saying the quality has dropped. I use to live in philly and no other cheesesteak place outside of philly is as authentic as this place. Prices are good and the cheesesteaks are addictive. The only downside is their fries...really just stick to cheesesteaks and you should be A OK!

This was my first time coming here. They have a nice location on Atlantic Avenue pretty close to the beach in Delray Beach. It's a little out of my way coming from Fort Lauderdale, but still a nice location. I got a regular sized provolone with onions. It's not very greasy as far as Philly cheesesteaks go, but definitely not dry. The meat quality was good, thinly sliced rib eye like it's supposed to be. They don't put a lot of meat in it, but just enough, I guess. The diced onions were a nice touch, nicely caramelized. I probably would have liked a little more cheese in my cheesesteak as well. Next time I'll probably get it with Wiz, since the provolone was a little too bland for my tastes, although still good. Overall, this seems like a pretty authentic Philly cheesesteak place. Nothing special really, but it gets the job done. I'll come back if I'm in the area. It's nice to try them with both provolone and Wiz and compare.

It's a cheese steak...so it's always OK..... but this place is just average at best, great location & if ur trying to cure a hangover its fine.. You will not remember it in the morning anyway.. price is kind a stiff for what U get... but again in S FL this is getting good marks from other yelpers because they have been beaten down by the S FL food scene.............sorry guys, it is what it is !!!!!

I came here earlier today and had a philly cheesestake and fries. The sandwhich was good but the bread wasnt authentic. It should be crispy but it was kinda soggy. Its the best cheesestake sandwhich in Delray but there are better ones out there.

I went here on the 4th of July, right after Delray's fireworks display. The streets were riddled with people and so were the restaurants. The genuinely unique characteristic of this cheesesteak grill is that they were fast and the food was fresh. I had an original cheesesteaks and fries, both of which were not too greasy, which you can expect from most joints like this. I recommend this place for lunch or a quick bite (but a filling one). The tables are all outside or you can take it right up the street to the beach.

Not pretentious. We got one cheesesteak, one chicken Philly and shared the Monster Fries. The idea was to split each sandwich so we could try both the steak and the chicken. My friend who got the steak wouldn't give it up. She finally gave me a bite. Both sandwiches were very good. We shared the monster fries which definitely has a full pound or more of potatoes in it. My friend, a picky eater, I assumed would not go near this delicious mess of cheese, onions, peppers and mushrooms; matched me bite for bite. We even had fries left over. I'll be back.

The Good: Convenient to order. Cheese steaks are served quickly. Pepper and sauce bar well stocked. Good corner location. The Bad: Food does not taste as good as it sounds. Steak portions are too small for the price. When Big Al's Steaks first set up shop here, I was pretty excited. Few things beat a good cheese steak, priced right at a convenient location. A big feature of the chain is that the bread comes from Philadelphia, and I guess that is supposed to taste better. Ordering isn't really complicated in any way. You order on the left window, pick up on the right. The big disappointment here is the food. It's not bad, but I felt that what I was being sold should have tasted better considering what was promised. I could not taste anything special about the supposed Philly bread, and the fresh shaved rib-eye steak bits didn't stand out to me. Not only that, but the sandwich is small for the price. I though in Philly you were supposed to get a big sandwich, but I could probably eat two of these things without having a problem. I have not tried the cheese wiz but I don't think I would go back to do so. Big Al is opening a store next to 5 guys in Boynton so I might try that out when it's ready. For the record Big Al's could have stayed in Philly and I don't think anyone would have missed it.

Greasy, greasy, greasy. These things are amazing. I just cant eat them like I used to. They're big, greasy, and delicious. And if you can afford the extra calories, knock yourself out. You cant go wrong with anything-- so try it all! And if you happen to be drunk one night on the Ave and in need of some good drunk food, Big Al's is the place to go!

So yummy!! I order mine with cheese wiz and onions...it's salty, meaty, cheesy goodness! These cheesesteaks are very rich so I only go every now and then. It's a treat every time!

If you LOVE french fries, and who doesn't, you have to stop by Big Al's! Stopped in the other day for a late lunch. WARNING: ONLY JUNK FOOD SOLD HERE!!! I don't think there is anything healthy . . . just sayin'. But oh the bad tastes SO good!!! I had the Italian, my future husband had the Philly Cheese Steak, and the kid devoured a hot dog (pure sodium I'm certain!). I limited us to 1 1/2 servings of fries between the three of us for obvious reasons . . . . which led to the inevitable and expected fight!

Good sandwich, but I could use a bit more meat. High prices for what you get. Also annoying that there is nowhere to sit inside. It was raining hard the last time I was here, and I wanted some shelter.

Fresh cheese steak...not my cardiologists recommendation, BUT everything in moderation, love this place for a outside on the ave fresh cheesesteak. Thx for making it fresh too! Big diff between subway and this! BIG AL wins hands down!

Had this for the very first time & the cheesesteak was pretty tasty!! I had mine with a little marinara & lots of cheese & it was like a meaty dream. I think everyone that's in Delray Beach needs to stop by here for a delicious Philly Cheesesteak! There is no inside dining as this is kind of a walk-up to the-window type of place, but there is some outside seating available for a quick lunch or dinner. 2 thumbs up!

When I walked up to Big Al's I saw a large stack of cheese Whiz cans in the background, and I knew that this would be a good day :) While the rolls are not of the Amorosa variety, you'll find everything else here is authentic Philly Cheesesteak. You have to order it right (Wit, Wit...or however)...they offer mainly cheesesteaks / fries / and they have tastycakes for sale too. While It wasn't the best I've ever had, it's a close recreation of the philly original.

I pass by this place on the way home from friend's place all the time and no matter what time I drive by (usually late at night), the place always seems to have a crowd of people in front of it. Well tonight after a 4th of July party, It was late and I was hungry. I was thinking of a place to stop. Then I decided on Big Al's. I've never been there and I've never had a Philly cheesesteak. Although I did thoroughly enjoy the cheesesteak, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought i would. I think reviews and friends built up this place so much that I was destined to be a little disappointed. If I knew nothing of this place, I would have been impressed....so that's why I gave it 4 stars. I will definitely be back to Big Al's.

Authentic Philly style cheesesteaks 1,000+ miles south of Philly? Nah, couldn't be. Yes, Virginia there really is a Santa Claus . . . and there are cheesesteaks -- "wit wiz" -- outside of Philly. Believe it! This is not Philly mind you, but it comes close. Similar to the famous places you may have come to know and love in the city of Brotherly Love, you walk-up to a window, they take your order, walk down to the next window and pick-up your cheesesteak. And YES, they offer Cheese-Wiz (otherwise this place would not have gotten four stars from me). They offer other types of cheese as well, but "wiz" is the way to go. They also offer a selp-help selection of peppers (banana peppers among them). They offer outdoor seating right there on the corner, but the night I was there, it was just slightly too cool to sit out there. My only complaint was the bread -- it was just a bit too soft -- prefer bread for these sandwiches to be just a bit heartier. Otherwise it was wonderful to get a good cheesesteak outside of Philly.

I love this place! I haven't even had a cheesesteak here yet, because I always order the turkey hoagie. I know. Who orders a turkey sub at a cheesesteak place? Ladies and gentlemen, that would be me. The turkey hoagie is absolutely delicious and it's always awesome. My boyfriend usually opts for the chicken cheesesteak with cheez whiz and he's a big fan. This place has the best french fries ever! I'm amazed at the consistency of this place. It's always quick and tasty. Check it out if you're looking for something fast and easy or if you find yourself out on the streets of Delray late at night after a few drinks and a craving for something totally bad for you.

Can't go wrong when you want to be BAD! Cheese wiz steak sandwich is probably not the best thing you can do for yourself, but after a long night in Delray do yourself a favor and walk up to this place. Love it, but be prepared to feel the guilt .

my first trip to delray beach and I see this place across the street from my hotel. read the reviews here and decided to try it. Being a bit of a cheese snob I didn't try the steak with cheese whiz or american cheese. I just can't bring myself to eat that stuff. I ordered a cheese steak wit(h) onions and provolone cheese, frys and a soda. The cheese steak was awesome! The sauteed onions added the perfect hint of flavor. Great quality cuts of beef. no excess fat, very little grease(for a cheese steak) If you know beef, you can taste the difference. ;) I added some mustard and hot sauce for my perfect cheese steak. The french fry's were cooked to order, Perfectly. Not soggy, not dark, just perfect crisp on the outside and a well cooked potato inside. Vic & Angelo's down the street could learn something by using clean oil to cook with, and proper temperature. The soda was plain diet coke. Kind of ironic to get a diet soda and a cheese steak, but you might as well make the calories good ones. This place is great! I'm going here for sure next time i'm in Delray Beach.

Pretty close to the real thing. I am a Pat's guy not Geno's in Philly (In case you care) Sitting outside on Federal Hwy sucks and you can not eat inside. If you take it to go it loses its freshness and gets very soggy. I find it best to eat at the counter in off peak hours. For the novice cheeseteak'r here are the rules. HOW TO ORDER A CHEESESTEAK IN PHILLY: When in Philly, expect your order-taker to have the manners of "The Soup Nazi". Be prepared when you place your order. Cheesesteak shops are not known for their patience and customer service. Act like you know what you're ordering, and don't hesitate while making your choices. Know your order BEFORE you approach the counter, and try and keep special requests to a minimum (but still make sure you get what you want). Ordering a cheese steak can be traumatic in some places. So make your decisions, and be assertive. Some guys can smell a tourist a mile away. Act like you've been there a million times, talk Philly sports, and say "Yo" a lot to try and blend in with the natives. If the menu is numbered, use the number of your selection. And always specify whether or not you want fried onions by saying "Wit" or "Wit-out", this is the Philly way. If you are at Pat's or Geno's, and you want to try your steak with Cheeeez Whiz and onions, just say "Whiz, Wit"-- now that's the proper lingo!

Delray needed this quick and easy hot spot! EATS- With a small menu of subs and phillys, it is a great place to grab a fast bite and sit on the corner to people watch. I wouldn't call it the best philly I have ever had, but it was very good. EXPERIENCE- Food: A- Service: A (very friendly) DAMAGE- For that area- cheapest For a philly- not that cheap OTHER- hard to find parking sometimes....

This is as close as you can get to an authentic philly cheesesteak. They make their philly's with cheese wiz, which is hard to find around this neck of the woods.

this place used to be better, but somehow the last few times i've gone it just hasn't been as good. one time the bread was kind of stale, and another time the sandwich was really greasy. however, when they are made well, they are damn tasty. i like the way they give you long thin slices of rib eye, instead of chopping it up into little bits like every other place does around here. a few years ago i would have rated it 4 stars, but because of its lack of consistency, i have to give it a 3. but bare in mind, if you catch them on a good afternoon, they are definitely capable of making a delicious cheese steak.

This is being written merely on a Philly cheese steak bite!! It was scrumptious :) I don't eat them because they are not my thing- my boyfriend on the other hand loves them! He saw the sign and started salivating on himself- and said god I bet that place is awesome- I replied let me check yelp- he stole my phone and began reading himself- he asked you wanna try it- I'm not going to disappoint him- so I said "sure" well I immediately noticed they had a veggie thing so yup I got that - it really sucked ass- it was provolone cheese (that's what I wanted) with lettuce and green peppers, oregano, and oil and vinegar - like seriously your going to offer a "veggie" choice and that's it?? Come on dress it up!! Throw some onions, olives, banana peppers, tomatoes, some salt pepper, and all the other veggies you offer for other types of sandwiches!! My boyfriend got the philly cheese steak and umm it smelled amazing- looked amazing- he noticed I was picking my sandwich apart to no end - just eating bits and pieces- so he offers me a bite and omg it was a party in my mouth- it was great!! The meat wasn't rubbery and nasty the onions were grilled perfectly and the cheese whiz umm like they say "moment on your lips, lifetime on your hips" well I'll totally take it on my lips, hips, ass and thighs!! Simply delish!! O! Can't forget the fries- just average- god I hope he wants to go back- and next time I getting the big kid sandwich instead of the crap I got!

Best steak sandwiches south of philly. I won't go and say it's among pat's and geno's but it certainly is the best you can expect south of the mason dixon line. Prepared the authentic way (even understands the lingo when ordering) and th owners are from philly so they know a good steak. a bit pricey, but it is well worth it, espescilly after a long day on the beach or strolling the ave.

Being from Philly.... there is nothing like a true Philly steak....but for FLorida....we wouldn't trade this place for the world. The bread is flown in....the steak is a bit chinsy....but if you want a good quick sandwich at a high price.... you're in luck. Make sure you ask them to fry the steak dry... otherwise the grease will make your experience messy and hard on the stomach.... but when you get it done dry, you'll be okay.... Make sure you order.... steak... wiz with....don't stand there holding up the line while you try to figure out how to order... practice before you get there....

I was in Delray, was tired and looking for a quick but decent meal. I came across this place. I love a Philly Steak but very few, if any, places outside South Philly seem to have them. It's a steak (shaved/shredded) and cheese elsewhere. I was pleasantly surprised with the thinly sliced steak grilled in whole slices. I got one without, with wiz. It was not Pats, Genos or Tony Lukes but the closest I have ever had. The self-serve cherry peppers added to the authenticity. The fries were great as well. Definitely a good place for a quality meal on the run.
